Maybe I should add that the UofM Administration chose to wait until Joey was back in Hamilton, since he was one of the few people who is willing to stand up and say “No” to them.
They may have just waited for me to disappear, it would be a smart move. I would be fighting this tooth and nail. This goes against everything the government has told the University. It is sad but Canadian universities seem to believe they are entitled to public money (and the high paychecks Admin gets from it) but do not have to listen to the public or our elected Premiers. More on this coming in a post in a minute. The Premier of Manitoba said on May 12th in regards to these actions (prior to the U of M publicly announcing it):
Doer wouldn’t say what the government plans to do yet to stop the universities from hiking fees, but voiced his displeasure about what amounts to a 15 per cent tuition hike for BU students.
“We’re concerned what work we’ve done through the front door will be lost through the back door,” Doer said. (From the Brandon Sun: http://www.brandonsun.com/displayad.cgi?adnum=1281)
