Well,
Today in the Globe and Mail, Lloyd Barber is quoted stating an disgusting anti-Jewish remark:
“Don’t forget that the Jewish lobby is a very powerful lobby,” Lloyd Barber, a former University of Regina president and companion of the Order of Canada, said yesterday. “It’s not the only powerful lobby, but it’s a very powerful lobby.”
I hope that he loses his Order of Canada very quickly. This makes me sick that the Order of Canada is tainted by these bigots!
Get rid of them now!
Anyway, this topic is discussed on the Blogosphere and some misquoted the article and stated that Mr. Barber was the past President of the University of Manitoba.
He is not and I asked that the blogger correct this.
And he corrected it very quickly. I have made mistakes before as well and taken forever to correct them, so I am very impressed with the quick response!
The blog post in question is here:

Thanks for the keen eye, Chief
I guess that’s why newspapers have editors…
and that’s why they also have legions of scary lawyers…
I have to disagree with your reaction to the article, Joey. While I am disgusted with people like Ahenakew who try, to this day, to overcome their own insecurities by blaming the world’s problems on Jewish people, I don’t find Barber’s comments in the Globe offensive. What Barber was trying to say, in my best interpretation, was that groups representing the interests of Jewish people writ large are loud voices in Canada, as they are in the United States. It cannot be denied that B’nai Brith and other Jewish lobby groups are very effective.
Of course, I am not suggesting that effectiveness is in any way a crime. All the power to them for being great lobbyists. There is a difference between remarks such as Barber’s (“the Jewish lobby is a powerful one”) and remarks like “the Jews control the media,” with the latter being very offensive (not to mention utterly false) and the former being an attempt to state the facts.
Mind you, I didn’t need anyone to lobby me for me to see that Ahenakew has some problems upstairs. His kind of anti-semitism is the most pathetic kind – the claim that somehow, someway, a group of millions of people deserved their fate of attempted extermination.
Regardless of whether his comments were found to be hate crimes or not, we don’t need neanderthal racists in the Order of Canada. I’m glad he’s out.
