Reminds me of a story from my basic training.
We were digging trenchs for days in the Meaford. One of the guys in my hole decided that he would speak his mind and point out that digging deep trenchs made no sense as they were no longer used in modern warfare. To which the Sergeant replied “get digging, you willl need this skill when Mel calls” referring of course to Mel Lastman, mayor of Toronto calling in the army to shovel snow.
