Microsoft and Yahoo merge messaging services in beta
Heavyweights combine
By INQUIRER newsdesk: Thursday 13 July 2006, 16:22
WEB HEAVYWEIGHTS that aren’t Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are runnning a beta test of software that combines the firm’s competing instant messaging service.
The merging of the services will create user base of some 350 million and give the pair massive lead over rivals such as Google and Skype.
Users of Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger with Voice will able to connect and chat with one another. Yahoo denied the move was a response to Google’s recently-introduced Chat service.
The service will be officially launched “in the coming months”, the companies said. µ

I will be installing the Yahoo! Messenger! Beta! Tonight! (if all goes as planned) and will update on how it works.

Firefox 2 Beta 1 : It is here (and of course being a gek, I am using it)

WARNING: This is the nightly build from last night and represents the first Beta Version of Firefox. A beta version, especially first release, will usually have a few bugs. This is not for the faint of heart.
I am now using the new Firefox 2! I like it so far. Only complaint, this being the first day of the Beta, none of my extensions work with Firefox 2. Many features are not yet working in the new Firefox but that is okay, I understand that being a Beta it is going to be missing some stuff.
Here are some screenshots:

Here you can see that a close tab button is on each tab. I have noticed that tabs open quicker and switching between is quicker compared to FireFox 1.5.
The search feature has improved with auto-suggestion for Google and Yahoo! Very nice.
The new Firefox also has automatic spell check for those times where you cannot spell. Considering that I have dysgraphia, that is very often for me.
On the whole, looking good… my advice, hold out till it comes out in a month or two.

BUT …. if you really want it here it is:
Now if you are daring and willing to take the risk, you can go get it here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/bonecho-beta1-candidates/rc1/firefox-2.0b1.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Everywhere Girl (The UofM Girl) Identity Reveal

Well, a few really good web detectives have found out who she is. They have talked about it here on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Everywhere_Girl_%282nd_nomination%29
Basically, her name is: Jennifer Anderson but she goes by Jennifer Chandra in her acting career.
Her are her websites:

  • www.TheEverywhereGirl.com – The Official Website of The Everywhere Girl.
  • www.myspace.com/theeverywheregirl – The Official MySpace Profile of The Everywhere Girl.
  • www.myspace.com/jennaluna – Personal MySpace Profile of Jennifer Anderson.

  • Here is the Proof.

A member of the SRA says they were told that I was never banned from the MSU. Another lie from the MSU, because I am banned.
The allegiations were all false and frivilous. This really had to do with me exposing problems in the MSU and calling for a ban on corporate gifts at General Assembly.
    Here is the document:

The ban has never been revoked.

    Great PodCast

I have taken up listening to Podcasts. The greatest challenge is finding good podcasts, most are junk.
The Pritzker Military Library in Chicago has a great listing of podcasts on their site
I have been listening to their Medal of Honor series of podcasts which are interviews with recipents of the Medal of Honor. One of them was with Paul Bucha.
I really enjoyed this podcast and his inset was great. He has one heck of a great story and I strongly recommend listening:

    It is a 1:27 interview/question and answer.

Winnipeg: Slurpee Capital of the World

Nothing hits the spot when it is -40 like a nice ice cold Slurpee!
For the seventh year in a row, Winnipeg is the Slurpee Capital of the World.
I can tell you I miss the late night walk for 40 mins each way from campus to 7-11 to get one in the middle of winter and then shivering the way back to rez.
