More SFSS Stories in my Future?

This is an interesting small confusing post.  The title is SFSS forum and speaks about a vote on CFS membership.  There is nothing more, no details.  Someone at SFU, please enlighten me!

  1. Sure, Joey, I’ll be happy to enlighten you :)
Today, the SFSS forum voted to put forward a non-binding resolution to the SFSS membership as a referendum alongside the upcoming election. The question of the referendum essentially asks students whether they would like to cease their membership with the CFS, and the results would provide the next year’s board with a clear direction with how to act in regards to the Society’s relationship with the CFS.
Please note that this is not intended to be a formal method of separation, but only a mandate as to what they should do concerning the CFS question. We’re not actually leaving…yet.
I’d post the exact wording myself, but I don’t want to get it wrong, nor do I want to seem to be circumventing the proper means of promugation (though I may already be doing that by typing this comment!). Pending legal approval, the question ought to be published in next week’s Peak.
    Hope that helps.

  2. Yeah, it was quite the meeting. The working group on CFS relations gave their presentation, and the CFS was invited to give their own presentation.
The CFS presentation was more or less “you guys clearly dont want to work with us, so we’re not going to bother trying to talk to you, bye.” They then left and didnt take any of the many questions that were arising in the room.
    A long discussion ensued.
Then the referendum question was put to the floor, more discussion ensued, and the vote came.
All in all, a good day for democracy.

  3. At least one of them (either Shamus Reid or Scott Payne, forgot which one) answered at least one question: apparently, the reason they denied the proxy vote was because they “weren’t sure” who was a real director or not.
Of course, as someone later said, about 700+ students present at the SGM were pretty sure…
A good day indeed Pat :P
